The iOS 18.1 beta update introduces Apple’s new AI-powered ‘Magic Editor’ feature for enhancing and refining photos.
Apple is preparing to introduce its AI features with the iOS 18.1 update in the coming months. With the beta version now available, users are getting an early look at the new capabilities. Among the updates is Apple’s version of Google’s Magic Editor, rebranded as Clean Up, which offers enhanced photo editing tools.
You can use this feature to remove unwanted items or subjects from an image after clicking it. Apple is also bringing the AI feature into its Photos app for iPhone users
iPhone Clean Up AI Features: How It Works
The iOS 18.1 beta provides a detailed preview of the new AI editing feature designed to eliminate distractions from your photos. With Clean Up, you can easily remove unwanted elements, such as a pole or an extra person, directly within the Photos app. To use it, simply tap the Clean Up icon, circle the object you want to remove, and let the AI handle the rest. The feature aims to ensure that the final edit is seamless and unobtrusive, leaving no visible traces of the changes.
The Clean Up feature is currently available in the iOS 18.1 beta 3 version, but it is only accessible to users with iPhone 15 Pro models or higher in the US at this time. It can also be tested with the macOS beta and iPad OS beta on M1 Macs or iPads.
Google first introduced the Magic Editor with its Pixel series a few years ago. This year, the Pixel 9 series has been enhanced with Gemini AI-powered features, bringing it closer in capability to the upcoming iPhone 16 lineup, which will support AI features with the iOS 18.1 update scheduled for release in October.
