According to a recent report, Gemini may soon be available as a stand-alone app on iPhones, ending its exclusivity on Android devices. Currently, iPhone users must access Gemini through the Google app, requiring multiple steps to switch to the assistant on their home screen. Unlike the seamless integration available on Android devices, especially Pixel phones, this convenience is lacking for iPhone users. However, Gemini may soon arrive on iOS in a more user-friendly way.
A report by 9to5Google reveals that a user in the Philippines spotted the Google Gemini app on the Apple App Store. This stand-alone app could offer iPhone users more direct access to Gemini, potentially enhancing the Gemini Live experience.
However, Google has not officially announced the app’s availability on the Apple Store yet.
According to the app listing, Gemini leverages the iPhone’s Live Activities feature, allowing it to remain active in the background while users multitask, adding to its convenience.
For now, the iOS app appears to offer a basic experience similar to the Gemini website, lacking the polished layout that Android users enjoy. Attempts to access the app listing from the United States and India were unsuccessful, with only one user reporting its appearance. This suggests that the listing may have been an accidental early release or part of a limited test.
Currently, Android smartphones with fully integrated Gemini assistants, like the Samsung Galaxy S24 Ultra and Google Pixel 9 series, offer the most refined Gemini experience. If Gemini does come to iOS, it could open new possibilities for iPhone users interested in accessing Google’s advanced AI features.
A Bloomberg report from last week suggests that Apple is considering integrating Google’s Gemini—comparable to ChatGPT—into its iPhone operating system. At the 2024 Worldwide Developers Conference (WWDC), Apple’s Senior Vice President of Software Engineering, Craig Federighi, hinted at the potential for integrating AI services beyond OpenAI’s ChatGPT, which could heighten competition for Siri.
