Sameer Wankhede Breaks Silence on Shah Rukh Khan Chats: 'Why Would I Leak It? I Had to Present Evidence'

Former NCB Zonal Director Sameer Wankhede is once again in the spotlight, fighting battles on multiple fronts. As he pursues a defamation lawsuit against Netflix and Shah Rukh Khan’s Red Chillies Entertainment over the show ‘The Bads of Bollywood’, Wankhede has now addressed the controversial “leak” of his private WhatsApp chats with the Bollywood superstar.

In a recent interview, Wankhede vehemently denied leaking the chats, stating they were submitted as official evidence to the Bombay High Court as part of his legal defense.

Wankhede’s Defense: ‘It Was My Job to Present It to the Court’
The alleged WhatsApp conversations with Shah Rukh Khan first surfaced in May 2023, during the CBI’s corruption and extortion case against Wankhede related to the Aryan Khan cruise ship case.

Addressing the “leak,” Wankhede questioned the motive behind such an act. “There was a writ petition which I had filed before the Hon’ble Bombay High Court. In that writ I had to present some evidence,” he explained. “So why will I ‘leak’ it? I will bring it to the Hon’ble Court. What is my motive in ‘leaking’ those things?”

He emphasized that the chats were submitted through proper legal channels, complete with a 65B certificate for electronic evidence. “It is my job, which I presented to the honourable court,” he asserted, adding that the details would naturally become public during court arguments.

The CBI’s investigation into the corruption case against Wankhede is nearing its conclusion, with the agency having assured the Bombay High Court in July 2025 that it would be completed within three months.

A Look Back at Shah Rukh Khan’s Alleged Pleas
For context, the widely circulated chats allegedly show a father pleading for his son, Aryan Khan, who was arrested in the drugs-on-cruise case. The messages reveal a desperate Shah Rukh Khan appealing to Wankhede’s humanity.

Some of the alleged excerpts include:

“You are a good man. Please be kind to my son. My son will break as a human being. I can only plead and beg you as a father.”

“I beg you man, please don’t let him be in that jail. He will break as a human being. His spirit will be destroyed because of some vested people. You promised you will reform my child not put him in a place where he may come out completely battered and broken.”

The ‘Bads of Bollywood’ Defamation Lawsuit
Separate from the chat controversy, Wankhede has filed a lawsuit against Red Chillies Entertainment and Netflix. He alleges that their new show, ‘The Bads of Bollywood’—reportedly Aryan Khan’s directorial debut—portrays him in a “false, malicious, and defamatory” manner.

The Bombay High Court has taken up the matter but has refused to grant any immediate relief.

The court has ordered Red Chillies Entertainment and other defendants to file a reply within seven days.

The next hearing for the case has been scheduled for October 30, 2025.

With the CBI case concluding and a high-profile defamation lawsuit underway, all eyes are on Sameer Wankhede’s next moves in these ongoing legal dramas.
