The Board of Control for Cricket in India (BCCI) is taking extra steps to support Shreyas Iyer, who is currently recovering from a ruptured spleen and rib cage injury sustained during the final ODI against Australia last week. The star India batter, who was admitted to a Sydney hospital after the incident, is reportedly out of the ICU and in a stable condition.
According to a report by The Times of India, the BCCI has arranged for Iyer’s sister, Shresta Iyer, to fly to Sydney to be by her brother’s side during his recovery. The Indian cricket board confirmed that its medical team will continue to monitor Iyer’s progress closely over the coming days.
BCCI secretary Devajit Saikia shared that Dr Rizwan Khan, the Indian team doctor, has remained in Sydney to assist Iyer and ensure the best possible care. “He is admitted to one of the best hospitals in Sydney,” Saikia said, adding that the board is doing everything necessary to support the cricketer and his family.
Suryakumar Yadav Shares Encouraging Update
Providing reassurance to fans, India’s T20I captain Suryakumar Yadav shared a positive health update about Iyer during a press conference in Canberra ahead of the five-match T20I series against Australia.
“He is in fine shape — eating solid food, walking in the hospital without support, and taking phone calls,” Suryakumar said at the Manuka Oval, the venue for Wednesday’s series opener.
Suryakumar revealed that he had tried to contact Iyer immediately after the incident but initially couldn’t reach him. Later, he received updates from team physio Kamlesh, confirming that Iyer was stable. “He has been replying to messages and talking to everyone now. It’s a big relief,” Suryakumar added.
Shardul Thakur Also Confirms Iyer’s Stability
Meanwhile, Mumbai captain Shardul Thakur, speaking on the sidelines of the Ranji Trophy, also confirmed Iyer’s stable condition. “I spoke to Shreyas. He was stable,” Thakur said, echoing the positive news shared by Suryakumar.
As Iyer continues his recovery, fans and teammates across the cricketing world have been sending messages of support. With his sister Shresta joining him soon, and the BCCI’s medical team closely monitoring his health, the star batter is expected to make a strong recovery in the coming weeks.
